The National
Emergency Commission (NEC) Head and Deputy Prime Minister M.Enkhbold has ordered that high-readiness
level measures be taken in Sukhbaatar
and Dornod aimags to control the spread
of the foot and mouth disease. The bordering areas of Khentii, Dornogobi,
Gobisumber, and Tuv aimags and
Administration and Disaster Prevention Services in Ulaanbaatar have also been
placed on alert.
According to latest reports, about 7,000 animals of 334 herders in Sukhbaatar,
Baruun-Urt, Khalzan, Ongon, Dariganga, Erdenetsagaan and Asgat soums of
Sukhbaatar aimag and Choibalsan, Chuluunkhoroot, Bayantumen and Matad soums of
Dornod aimag have been diagnosed with the disease, more that 3,000 of whom have
been destroyed. The number of infected animals has been rising by 500-700
daily. Three tons disinfective substances and 3,00 protective clothes are being
sent to each aimag.
Local NEC officials have been asked to seek the help of veterinars and
Agriculture University graduate course students to test and inoculate all
animals of the two aimags. All animals in the bordering aimags should also be
vaccinated. The NEC discussed a suggestion to temporarily close down border
points Ereentsav, Khavirga and Uvdugbatankhoshuu of Dornod aimag and Bichigt of
Sukhbaatar aimag.
