Citizens
will be heartened by the claim yesterday by heating and power distribution
companies that 75-80% of the repair and maintenance work, begun in the spring
jointly with the Energy Board, have been completed. Money for certain parts for
the work was allocated from the State budget. The Ulaanbaatar Heating Network
has said it spent MNT3.2 billion of its own money on work over 3,671 meters,
and MNT13.65 billion from the State budget on another 10,250 meters.

Not
just maintenance and repairs, but additions and expansions have also been made
at some 40 places. At some of these the supply lines have been widened. Some
4,120 meters of pipes to 688 apartments have been cleared of obstruction.
Apartment Owners’ Unions have paid for work on 4,120 meters and apartment
offices have repaired 5,071 meters of supply line and five boilers. Another 30
boilers have been cleaned.

Consumers in Shadivlan and Zuunmod will now have uninterrupted power supply as
around 1,000 of the total 3,000 distributing substations have been repaired and
upgraded. Almost 83% of the electricity network and equipment repair work has
been finished.

The final phase of work on the water supply system will begin tomorrow. This
includes disinfection measures and cleaning of the sewage system. The ger
districts water supply improvement project covering the north part of
Bayankhishuu, Dari Ekh, and Dambadarjaa has been taken up, and 85.8% of the
repair work on water pipes to apartment blocks is finished, and 75% work on
repairing 100 heating furnaces is also complete.

Power stations did not have enough coal last winter, and this year the
Government has allotted MNT4.9 billion to ensure adequate stocks. A clear
improvement has been noticed since August 20. Power Station II has 15 days’ or
91% of its mandatory reserve, Power Station III, 30 days’ or 97%, and Power
Station IV, 12 days’ or 62%.
