Three
schoolgirls from Burton and South Derbyshire in England have just gone back
home after their ‘once in a lifetime’ experience of a month-long summer
vacation, spent mainly on trekking on foot and horseback through the dusty
plains of Mongolia. They say they felt lucky to have experienced such a unique
adventure, on a trip which included a 50- mile, four-day horseback trek and
work on a project to repair a run-down Mongolian kindergarten.
One of them told the local newspaper
on her return, “We rode into the countryside and were soon far away from
anywhere. When we only saw four other people over the four days, we realized
how remote we really were. Each night we camped at a different place next to
water, meaning we had several river crossings on horseback, which was a new
challenge for everyone and many of us got wet.”
Their route took them “past many
beautiful mountains and we were are all very proud of how we coped on the horses
as most of us were novice riders”.
