Both sides at yesterday’s 4th Mongolia-Germany
consultative meeting on economic policy in Ulaanbaatar exchanged views on the
present economic situation and discussed the state of bilateral cooperation in
trade and economics. The participants included representatives of the Mongolian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Road, Transportation, Construction
and Urban Development, the Committee for National Development and Reform and
the Center of Standardization and Measurement (CSM), and representatives of the
German Ministry of Economics and Technology.

The Mongolian side urged more cooperation from Germany in manufacturing final
products, developing high technology means of production, and both the physical
and financial aspects of infrastructure. It listed the major infrastructure
projects planned, and appealed to German companies for actively participating
in their construction. It also called for an extension of the successful
managerial training program that Germany runs for Mongolians. The Beehive
program of the Government of Mongolia to assist the return home of Mongolians
working abroad covers those in Germany.

It was decided that the CSM will cooperate
with Germany”s Standardization Institute and other Federal organizations to be
able to introduce European standards and norms in Mongolia.
