The 65th anniversary of victory over Japan in World WAR II
was observed yesterday at a ceremony in Zaisan where Defense Minister L.Bold
gave a speech, recalling that the end of the disastrous war had led to the world’s
recognition of Mongolia’s status as a sovereign independent country.
The Mongolian contribution to the Allied victory was not
negligible. Its men and material saw action in both Europe and Asia. Mongolians
were part of the Soviet army that defeated the Japanese to free a 180,000-sq.
km territory — including places like Dolonnuur, Jekhe, Chuulalt khaalga, and
Janchkhuu in Inner Mongolia – and
millions of people from Japanese occupation.
