The Ulaanbaatar administration and the Ministry of
Environment and Tourism have chosen Baganuur as the site for a new power plant,
in a bid to reduce the air pollution in the capital city. Another decision with
the same goal is to popularize the use of a new kind of stove producing less
smoke and electric heating in three districts of Ulaanbaatar. The equipment at
the water treatment center at Khargia will be modernized to help the Tuul river
remain clean.
These measures are part of the national program New Construction,
which has replaced the previously called Smokeless Ulaanbaatar program.
