The Government
meeting on Wednesday decided to allow students to pay tuition for just four months
at a time, and not the whole year. Many families will now be able to use the
money they are due to receive from the Human Development Fund to pay for their
children’s tuition. They will be allowed to transfer MNT500,000 of their dues
on this account. The decision will take effect in state and private schools
alike.

Minister for
Education, Culture and Science Yo.Otgonbayar said there are 160,000 university
students in Mongolia. Many families have more than one child at university.
Asked about the rising school tuitions, the minister said the average tuition
is expected to be MNT 726,000. 
MNT500,000 will be given in cash from the MNT1.5 million to be
distributed from the HDF and this can be transferred to tuition costs, leaving
the family to arrange for the remaining MNT200,000.”
