Minister for Education, Culture and Science Yo.Otgonbayar
has said that all schools will receive
their books by August 25. This is despite the alarming fact that printing
orders are yet to be given.
The tender for printing the books was announced on June
29 but the selection was not made on the scheduled date of July 29. No reason
was given for the delay. The tender evaluation committee met yesterday but
again could take no decision.
According to G.Batbaatar, an official of the ministry’s
Secondary Education Department, 25 books for Grades 3 and 8 will be new. Fresh
handbooks for PE teachers for Grades 1 to 3 and for Grades 7 to 9 will be
published. Students in Grades 1 to 3 in schools with a 12-year program will
have all their books free, but all others will have to buy them, except for
those from poor families and orphans.
Batbaatar, however, said that the ministry hopes
to have all the books distributed to schools by September 1. Some 10 companies
will be asked to do the printing work.
