Khaan Quest 2010 began
yesterday at the military training camp in Tavantolgoi and will run through August
22. This onternational military exercise is a US Pacific Command assisted
endeavor designed to train military personnel from many countries to help
United Nations peacekeeping operations (PKO) around the world.

This year’s exercise has two parts. The first covers work in the regional
headquarters, in command headquarters at battalion level and in mobile hospitals,
and the second deal with humanitarian aid. Germany, France, Japan, South Korea,
Singapore, India and Canada are the other participating countries.

The number of participants includes 204 Mongolian
troops and 125 from other countries. South Korea has sent seven staff-level
officers. Alaska National Guardsmen are also taking part.

The first joint
exercise took place in Mongolia in 2003.
