South Korea will send
seven staff-level officers to a US-supported peacekeeping military exercise in
Mongolia, according to a Yonhap News Agency report quoting the Joint Chiefs of
Staff (JCS). This year’s Khaan Quest exercise, which kicked off Saturday   and runs through August 22, is a US Pacific
Command assisted endeavor designed to train military personnel from many
countries to assist United Nations peacekeeping operations (PKO) around the
world.

The seven Korean officers are expected to take part in staff-level exercises
and medical support drills related to PKO operations. The first joint exercise
took place in the landlocked Asian country in 2003, with South Korea participating
in 2006 as an observer.
