Back in August 2012, in order to provide safety of the children, and to reduce the traffic jam, Ulaanbaatar City Mayor, E.Bat-Uul, issued a Decree for the establishment of an organized and school bus service for the capital. Within the framework of this project, an initial ten medium-sized school buses were procured using municipal budget funds. These buses started transporting children to 10 schools located in the city suburbs.
The City Education Authority informed that over the last three years, 3424 children from 33 schools were involved in the school bus service. This year, a total of 7276 children from 54 schools and 4 kindergartens are being transported by school buses. Of the schools, 28 are private and 26 are state property; there are also 3 private and 1 state kindergartens.
