Missing Mongolians

The relatives of about 40 Mongolians, who have gone missing whilst abroad, contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). These missing people disappeared over the space of many years. Currently, the MFA is setting up search programs via Mongolia’s embassies and consulates around the world. This will enable the MFA to provide the relatives with up-to-date and reliable information.

In order to help facilitiate this, the MFA is helping establish a “Foundation of Mongolians Abroad”, which will fulfill a coordination fuction. Prior to 1990, it had been the legal responsibility of every Mongolian national when traveling abroad to register with the Mongolian Embassy; after 1990 the “Law for Foreign Visits and Immigration by Mongolians” came into force, under which, people can register at diplomatic missions only if they so wish.
