Mongolia has been chosen as member of the United Nation’s Human Rights Council. The decision was taken during the 70th session of the General Assembly in New-York. Seven countries of the Asia-Pacific region were nominated for the five seats. During the poll, Mongolia took the highest votes (172 countries); the United Arab Emirates (159); Kyrgyzstan (147); South Korea (136), and the Philippines (113) became official members of the UN Human Rights Council as a result of the vote.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that: “Mongolia will work as a member of UN Human Right Council from 2016 to 2018. Subsequently, Mongolia will have administrative work status”.
