Hot spell likely to continue

The
average temperature in Mongolia has gone up by 3-4 degrees Celsius in the past
20 years. The rising temperature and low rainfall in some places gave meant
less food for pasturing animals. The temperature rose to above 40 Celsius
recently but 2004 and 2007 were much hotter, according to weather expert Ch.Sarantuya.

July
is the time when it rains most in Mongolia. The central, eastern and Gobi
regions experienced 7-8 consecutive hot days. In Altai regions, the heat was
less because of rainfall. In Gobi provinces, the temperatures rose to 40-43
Celsius, but rain is not expected in the eastern provinces and Gobi regions
until the end of this month.

Rain
is expected in the northern region on July 27, in some parts of western and
central regions on July 28, in the western parts of western, eastern and
central regions on July 29, and in some other regions on July 30. Thunderstorm
is also expected in these areas.          
      

Winds
will get stronger reaching 18-20 m/sec in the western half of the region on
July 28 and in the eastern half on July 29. The Gobi and steppe regions will
stay hot in the beginning of the week, but it will be cooler in the western
part of the region on July 28 and in most other regions on July 29.
         

The nighttime”s temperature will be +8 to +13 in mountainous areas of Altai,
Khangai and Khovsgol, and during the day they will be from +15 to +20. The
nighttime temperature is to be +17+22 and daytime +31+36 in Gobi region.
      

In
other places, the nighttime temperature will be +12+17, the daytime +20+25.
