The 23rd of September marks the 800th anniversary of the birth of Khubilai Khan, also known as Kublai. A grandson of Chingiz Khan and one of the Great Khans, he was famous for establishing the Yuan Dynasty in China (1271-1368) and having as his guest the famous Venetian traveller, Marco Polo. To mark the anniversary, the Mongolian Government has decided, under Order  242nd order to organise an official event  celebrating his birth. This will involve an exhibition entitled the “Heritage of the Khubilai Wise Khan” to be held from 15th-20th September. This is being held in the context of the “Update of the Paleontological and Archeological Museum” together with the Institute of the History and Archeology at the Science Academy, the Department of the Archeology and Anthropology at the Humanity School of the Mongolian National University, the National Library, and the Museum of Political History.

At the exhibition, archeological finds from the time of the Yuan Dynasty will be on show. There will also be a section dedicated to the life of Khubilai and also about life during the Yuan, including clothes and weapons. Visitors will also be able to watch a documentary film about Khubilai Khan and the “Journey of Marco Polo”, who lived in the court of the Mongolian ruler for the years.
