The 11th East Northern Asian Tourism Forum begins today in Ulaanbaatar. Many experts have come to Mongolia for this forum, including 20 from China, 40 from Japan, 50 from South Korea and 10 from Russia. The main topic of the Forum is “MICE Tourism”, which means developing tourism “around” other things such as international meetings and conferences, business venues, celebrations (such as the Naadam Festival) and exhibitions in UB.
MICE is an abbreviation for – meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.
The program “Ulaanbaatar Welcomes You” has been tasked to solve the Mongolian tourism crisis using the MICE Tourism model; the result will be year-round tourism. Steps are being taken to encourage Mongolian tourism during the winter time.
Ulaanbaatar has direct flights with the 20 cities, also the railway between Asia and Europe passes through Mongolia. Recently, the opening of many high class hotels and the improved service structure are making Ulaanbaatar a far more attractive place to visit. As a measure to attract tourists during the off-peak season, the UB City Administration plans to reduce 4-5 star hotel prices by 50% from November to May every year.
