Earlier today, Mongolian President Ts.Elbegdorj officially received the Secretary-General of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), and ex-Prime Minster of Belgium, Mr. Yves Leterme. The European politician is visiting Mongolia as an official guest to the celebrations to mark the 25^th Anniversary of the nation’s first democratic election. Mr. Elbegdorj expressed his thanks to Yves Leterme, and noted: “The first democratic election was the big event in our country’s democratic history. Previously, our electoral systems had become quite out of date; so the latest elections have been modernized using electronic voting system and the computerized registration of voters. This system helped to operate elections fairly, and provided immediate results. Mongolia will have its next parliamentary election in June 2016, and will host the “ASEM-XVI” meeting in July 2016”.

Mr.Yves Leterme said: “Mongolia is such a historical and interesting country. The democracy and democratic elections of your country has caught international attention. It is a positive and important factor, that the Mongolia is sharing experiences with Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar and other countries. Also, one essential thing is the electoral education of voters”.
