Yesterday, the Special Affairs Authority found the remains of the five climbers missing since 12th July. They had been climbing Mongolia’s highest mountain, Tavan Bogd in Bayan-Ulgii Aimag. Postmortem examination demonstrated that the climbers died of hypothermia. The director of the “Mongolian Expedition Company”, S.Aldarkhishig provided information about this accident.
-12th July marked the 100th anniversary of the first ascent of the Tavan Bogd. For this reason we organized an expedition led by G.Usukhbayar (a Mongolian Honorary Sportsman) to celebrate the event. Ten people were officially signed up for the climb. Also, several teams including one from Erdenet, consisted of Russian climbers and a research team from Ice-River had come to Mount Tavan Bogd ; they were excepting us. The climb took place on 12th July and everyone reached the summit. But, in the evening while we were celebrating at our base camp, several climbers did not come back. Therefore, on 13th July the other climbers led by G.Usukhbayar set off to find them. Naturally we reported to The Special Affairs Authority. Some of our climbers said that they heard the sound of an avalanche when we were making their descent from the mountain.
