The project to modernize public transport with electronic ticketing is underway. Currently, 900 of Ulaanbaatar’s 1100 buses have already been fitted with electronic ticketing machine. Bus passes will be on sale in approximately 500 bus-stop kiosks. The official launch of the electronic bus pass system will take place on 22nd July on Chinggis Square, after which people will be able to use their electronic cards. According to transport officials, passengers will be able to buy electronic bus passes for MNT 3600. These passes can be “topped up” from MNT 500-90,000. There will be five kinds of bus pass, including: senior citizen, disable person, student, school child and common passenger.
