In 2014 Mongolia conducted its first survey of religious monasteries and churches. The findings have been announced. It was discovered that of the 372 monasteries representing about 10 kinds of religious belief in Ulaanbaatar; 283 are authorized; 89 unauthorized and 234 are operating on a permanent basis. Most of them (61.3%) are Christian churches and assemblies (there are 7 Catholic organizations); 28.5% are Buddhist monasteries. Also, there are also 22 shamanist organizations; and 5 other religious sects including the Baha’i faith, Moonie, Shinto, and Hindu.
