Mongolians form a NGO supporting Korean reunion

Seventy years have elapsed since the division of the Korean Peninsula. B.Lkhagva, a diplomat, has written in his book “United Korea is on the way” that there is a special characteristic in Mongolians’ psychological attitude to Korea; they simply do not consider there to be either a north or south Korea. They consider Korea to be only one.

Mongolia has long-since wished for the time when Koreans could resolve their problems peacefully, and independently. Yesterday (26th May 2015) an event took place indicating these very attitudes; the formation of an NGO (non-governmental organization) to support Korean reunion.

Mr P.Ochirbat, Mongolia’s first president will work as a leader of the NGO, and B.Lkhagva will work as general coordinator. They declared that they will support Korean reunion, using soft diplomacy, such as society, culture, humanity, religion, sport etc.

There was a time Mongolia and Korea were like close relatives. During the period of socialism and the Korean War, Mongolians provided assistance – they belonged to one the one camp. There is also the great story of how Mongolians brought orphan children orphaned by the war to the Ulaanbaatar and raised them as their own.
