Erdenet Mining Corporation and Oyu Tolgoi LLC have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in the fields of health, security, environment, and regional cooperation. Moreover, they will work together for enhancing the strength of the mining sector. 

Speaker of Parliament Z.Enkhbold, General Director of Erdenet Mining Corporation Ts.Davaatseren, Head of the Board of Directors of Oyu Tolgoi LLC G.Batsukh, President of Oyu Tolgoi LLC and Executive Director Andrew Woodley and other officials participated in the signing ceremony yesterday.     

Woodley stressed that Oyu Tolgoi was happy to cooperate with Erdenet Mining in four crucial areas.  He added, "There is much we can learn from each other and the MoU will bring together the unique skills and expertise of both companies, helping create greater capacity and capability across Mongolia’s mining sector in these areas."

Z.Enkhbold, Speaker of Parliament noted, “I visited Oyu Tolgoi one month ago. I explained to the administration of Oyu Tolgoi LLC and Erdenet Mining Corporation that they are not competitors. You are partners, thus, you need to cooperate. Now we are signing the memorandum of understanding. 

"Procurement by Erdenet Mining Corporation from Mongolia is increasing year by year. We are ready to share these practices with Oyu Tolgoi. Oyu Tolgoi is going to build a city for 15,000 residents.  

"The issue of the underground mine is going to be resolved, and we think that we will start this work very soon."   

General Director of Erdenet Mining Corporation Ts. Davaatseren said, “There are common responsibilities and rights for any mining company. We should respect Mongolian law. One of these is to fully utilize a mine without any losses. Secondly, negative environmental impacts should be minimized. Thirdly, we need to adhere to labor security and safety.

"We’re happy to bring together our experience of successfully operating a major copper mine in Mongolia for decades, with Oyu Tolgoi, a new mine with world class technology and best practices. I believe this MoU will help extend our relations further, and make a major contribution to the Mongolian mining industry."
