Parliament discusses Constitutional amendments

At the spring session of the Parliament, it has been decided to discuss the issue of making amendments to the Constitution of Mongolia. A team of researchers has studied the implementation of a new Constitution of Mongolia and is prepared to present its conclusions.

Within the last 23 years, only two governments have fulfilled a full term.  There has even been a government with a term of only a few months.

The average lifespan of a government is 28 months, which has become a barrier for the successful and stable implementation of state policy and further development of the country. Political anyalysts say this shows the gaps in the Constitution of Mongolia, and that this is the moment to make amendments to the Constitution.

The Constitution of Mongolia, which was approved in 1992, has been adhered to for more than 20 years, but analysts conclude that it is necessary to make amendments to the Constitution, adjusting to the needs of the present economy and society.

Based on this conclusion, the Speaker of the Parliament has made a resolution and formed a working group of seven MPs who participated in the original drafting of the Constitution of Mongolia.

Members of the working group will review seven changes made in 2000, which have since been debased.

They will also discuss how to serve the sovereignty of the government, and whether or not an MP can serve as a Member of Parliament and work in the Cabinet.
