For Mongolia's winter following a long autumn, the nation is experiencing its first terribly cold days across the country.
Reports from the National Agency for Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment Monitoring says that December's average air temperature in the northern part of Uvs and Dornogovi provinces, the southern part of Tuv Province, and most of Dundgovi Province is expected to be 0.5 degrees warmer than long-time averages, and most of the country would be close to normal temperatures for this time of year.
More snowfall compared to long-term averages is expected in other parts of the country, with normal snowfall in Uvs, Khuvsgul, Uvurkhangai, Dunggovi, the northern part of Dornogovi, southern part of Tuv and Khentii, western part of Sukhbaatar, and the south-eastern part of Dornod Province.
January's monthly average air temperature in the eastern part of Uvs, western part of Zavkhan, southern part of Govi-Altai, and in Bayankhongor Province will be 0.5-1.0 degrees colder than long-term averages, and other parts of the country will experience normal January temperatures..
In December, normal snowfall is predicted in Khuvsgul, Selenge, most of Bayankhongor, the northern part of Tuv Province, the north-eastern parts of Zavkhan and Govi-Altai provinces, the northern part of Bulgan and Tuv provinces, the western part of Uvurkhangai and Umnugovi provinces. Southern Dornogovi Province and the south-eastern part of Sukhbaatar and Dornod provinces will see higher than normal snowfall.
