The Ministry of Industry and Agriculture of Mongolia has announced the date of the annual Camel Festival in the Gobi Desert, being held for the 9th year.
The annual Camel Festival, first organized by MP Ts.Dashdorj in 2004, will be organized in Tugrug sum in Govi-Altai aimag, on November 16th and 17th.
The Ministry of Industry and Agriculture will hold a camel herders session to create a platform for discussing state policy on camel populations, and hear the opinions of herders during the festival.
The Camel Festival will include camel races for five-year-old geldings and two-year-olds, and award the best-dressed herder couples on camel. There is also an award for the herder with the best pedigree female camel, selected for meeting the best standards for breeding.
During the festival there will be a fair and exhibition of camel wool and milk products, and folk art performances. Camel herders from neighboring sums and other aimags will compete at the Camel Festival.
