What is Ulaanbaatar
like when the FIFA World Cup matches are shown in pubs and clubs, and in
makeshift places where fans root for their teams with a beer in hand? Our
reporter finds out.

Niislel Asar (9:30pm): The place is already
full and nobody is being allowed in. Nobody seems to mind paying the entry fee
of MNT3,000. Fearing that other places could also be full before the first
match began at 10, people denied entry here hurried to some other place that was
showing the match.

Green Land (10.10 pm): There is a rush to
get out even though the match has just begun. The screen is broken and customers
kick the chairs around in frustration as they ask for their money back.

The Irish Pub (11 pm): This place is also
full and the waiters are running with as many beers as they can carry. People
are watching the match from outside the tent too. Surprisingly, some smaller
bars with big screens have few customers. Can it be that football fans prefer
to be among a big crowd? Support for the teams is divided.  When one group screams in joy as a goal is
scored, the other mourns in silence.

Free screen (2.30 am): The big screen in
front of the State Department Store is showing the games for free. The whole place
is like a drive-in cinema with more than a hundred cars parked with fans.
