Russian President V.Putin said to cooperate on an unlimited amount of livestock imports at a zero tax rate from Mongolia for the duration of 20 years during his visit to Mongolia in September.

The Minister of Industry and Agriculture of Mongolia Sh.Tuvdendorj paid an official working visit to Moscow on October 7-8th. Russia promised to set a livestock imports quota for Mongolian meat if Mongolian livestock imports meet sanitary and safety requirements. At the meeting in Moscow, the Minister of Industry and Agriculture of Mongolia, Sh.Tuvdendorj, and Russian Agricultural Minister, Nikolai Fedorov, and Director of Russia’s Federal Veterinary and Plant Sanitary Inspection, Service Sergey Dankvert, agreed on a three plan. The first is import livestock including meat and traditional agriculture products from Mongolia to Russia at a zero tax rate, lift existing restrictions on livestock imports from Mongolia, and implement measures from the first agricultural task force meeting of the Mongolian-Russian Intergovernmental commission.

Russia said it will create a task force to study possibilities of a zero rate tax on some of livestock imports beginning this year and submit the reports to the Russian government for favorable resolutions.

Russia then expressed that the country is ready to establish permission and a quota on meal products if Mongolian meat meets sanitary and safety requirement.

Agriculture ministers of both countries also agreed to launch joint programs to plant and harvest a new wheat crop that is suitable for Mongolia’s weather conditions.
