The Union of Democratic
Forces held a media conference yesterday to remember July 1, 2008. MP
Z.Enkhbold said the situation following the election of 2008 is not yet
stabilized and still raises passions. An open hearing revealed how people’s
rights had been violated after police made indiscriminate arrests after declaration
of a state of emergency and how law organizations were misused. “There are
people who want us to forget what happened, but we in the UDF want July 1 to be
known as Mongolia’s Day to Fight for Justice,” he said.

The UDF will continue
to demand an investigation of the role of many in the MPRP government then,
including former Prime Minister S.Bayar, former Minister for Internal Affairs
Ts.Munkh-Orgil, former Parliament Speaker D.Lundeejantsan, as well as of former
President N.Enkhbayar and General Ch.Amarbold, in dealing with the peaceful
protest, in announcing a state of emergency; and in giving the order to open
fire.

UDF vice president
G.Bayarsaikhan, MP, said July 1 was a people’s protest for justice. “The people
who caused the deaths must be identified. The Government must give an undertaking
that it will never again aim guns at people and must apologize for killing five
people, arresting hundreds and violating their rights,” he said.
