Today Mongolia is remembering its history of political repression. According to a law passed by the State Great Khural in 1998, September 10th is national remembrance day to commemorate the thousands of victims of political repression in Mongolia during the Stalinist era from 1937-1939.

The State Redressing Commission reports estimate that 36,000 people were repressed between 1922-1990, and 30,000 of those who were defamed have been redressed.

In 1998, the Mongolian Parliament (State Great Khural) passed a law on the rehabilitation and granting of compensation to victims of political repression. So far 17,584 people, the victims of political repression and their descendants, have been compensated 16 billion 326 million MNT.

The Government of Mongolia has conducted three phases of the redress process for victims of repression from 1920-1960.

In the scope of the remembrance day, victims' children, grandchildren and relatives will show respect by placing flowers on the Memorial for the Victims of Political Repression today, September 10th.

There will also be a research conference on the “Riot in 1932” and meetings with victims.
