Mongolian peacekeepers who completed a 9 month-mission under UN mandate in the latest country to gain independence from Sudan in Africa, the Republic of South Sudan, were awarded with state and military medals today. The ceremony, where Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag presented the medals of honor, was held at Chinggis Khaan Square on August 29th.

A Mongolian peacekeeping contingent of 850  servicemen from the Mongolian Armed Forces was stationed in the Republic of South Sudan on a mission to assist refugees settling in to camps, setting up checkpoints, providing security, providing civilians with water, and distributing food to the community, from November 2013 to August 2014.

Following a decree by President of Mongolia, 558 army servicemen and Chief of Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces 065 Unit Lieutenant-Colonel Yu.Amgalanbaatar and Chief of Staff of 011 Unit Major D.Munkhbat were presented with honors including Military Glory Medals. The Medal of Honor were presented to 13 military servicemen, including Deputy Chief of 150 Unit Lieutenant-Colonel L.Dagvasuren and Deputy Chief of 186 Unit Lieutenant-Colonel N.Gamtumur. The Medal for Peace was awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel of the Mongolian Armed Forces 350 Unit Ts.Erdenebayar and Major of 353 Unit B.Ariuntungalag.

In a speech to the peacekeepers, Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag stressed, “Mongolia exercises transparent foreign policy for peace, and secures national security though political and diplomatic ways. There are great contributions from army servicemen to fulfill this goal. The Mongolian army's strong discipline, ability to taking and complete orders amazes other countries' peacekeepers. Mongolia is proud of the potential of these peacekeepers and soldiers. You are the signature of Mongolia."
