The 2014 World Judo Championships began in Chelyabinsk Russia. The 33rd tournament challenging the best judokas across the globe is being held in the 7,500 seat Traktor Ice Arena, where 639 judokas from 110 countries will compete.
On the first day of the competition, men and women will compete for two medal sets in the –60kg and –48kg categories. On the first day of the tournament, International Master G.Boldbaatar (men's 60 kg) defeated Kazakhstan's Imasheev Aibek with Yuko scores in the quarterfinals, making it on to the semifinal.
Mongolian judoka G.Boldbaatar, who leads the D division, avoided facing a rival in the first round and beat Turkish judoka Ahmet Kaba Kabe Sahin in the second event. In the third round he defeated Taiwan's Tsai Ming Yen to compete in the semifinals.
In the women's 48 kg event, Mongolian judoka M.Urantsetseg overtook China's Xie Shi Shi in the preliminary round, but was defeated by Japan's Kondo Ami with Yuko scores.
Until now, only two judokas from each country were allowed to compete in the World Judo Championships. According to new rules for the International Judo Federation, each country can be represented by nine judokas in men's and women's events. Mongolia sent nine judokas to Chelyabinsk's tatami this year.

Mongolian judokas are participating in the 2014 World Judo Championships under the training of National Team Senior Coach O.Baljinnyam, State Merit Athlete D.Battulga, Kh.Erdenet-Od, IM Sh.Tsevelmaa, and G.Dashdavaa.
Mongolian judokas have won a total of eight medals, including two gold, two silver, and four bronze at past World Judo Championships. Kh.Tsagaanbaatar (Rotterdam-2013), and M.Urantsetseg (Rio De Janeiro -2013) won gold, O.Baljinnyam (Belgrad -1989), D.Amartuvshin (Rio De Janeiro -2013) seized silver, and D.Battulga (Belgrad -1989), Kh.Erdenet-Od (Cairo -2005), Kh.Tsagaanbaatar (Tokyo -2010), and M.Bundmaa (Tokyo -2010) won bronze.
