Ulaanbaatar governor and City Mayor E.Bat-Uul has issued a decision to intensify preventive measures against marmot plague. According to the decision checkpoints and 24 –hour patrols have been set up and travel and livestock transport restricted during the active season of marmot plague July-28 to October-15.
Joint control group comprised of Capital City`s Special Inspection Agency, Ulaanbaatar Metropolitan Police Department, and Traffic Police will operate dividing into three 8-hour shifts in Emeelt in Songinokhairkhan district, Tsaiz trade in Nalaikh district, and checkpoints at Bayanzurkh, 22, Kherlen bridge, Yarmag, Nisekh-Biokombinat. And 24-hour patrols by Border hygiene and sanitation department of Civil Aviation Authority at Chinggis Khaan Airport, Railroad Special Inspection Department at railroad station, permanent police checkpoints in Doloon buudal and Gachuurt.
During the peak season of marmot plague hunting and transporting of marmot is banned so state inspectors of Capital City`s Special Inspection Agency can require you to stop for a roadside vehicle check at any time when you enter the city.
The plague is normally transmitted by flea bite but can also be transmitted by exposure to the flesh of an infected animal. Marmots are a natural carrier of the disease.
