Junior Asian Championships 2014 begins

The FILA Wrestling Junior Asian Championships 2014 began at Buyant-Ukhaa sport complex in Ulaanbaatar on June 5th.  This is the first time that the Junior Asian Championships have been held in Mongolia. On the first day, the Men's Junior Greco-Roman Qualification Rounds in 55 kg, 60 kg, 66 kg, 74 kg, 84 kg and 96 kg were held, where Mongolian P.Erdenebileg won gold in the 55 kg and N.Amarsaikhan won bronze in the 66 kg category.

The President of the Mongolian Freestyle Wrestling Association, D.Dagvadorj, delivered a speech opening the event for the Wrestling FILA Junior Asian Championships 2014. D.Dagvadorj noted in his speech that 230 junior wrestlers, from 14 Asian countries including Mongolia, China, Japan, the DPRK, South Korea, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz, Tajik, Turkmen, Taiwan, Thailand, Uzbek and India, are to compete for the 24 sets of medals. He added that he hopes these leading junior wrestlers from Asia would compete showing their best and would amaze the audience and fans.

The President of Asian Associated Wrestling Committee, Prof Kim Chang Kew, congratulated competitors and said in a speech:  “I express my appreciation to Mongolia`s hosting of the Junior Asian Championships 2014 with its experience of organizing Asian Youth Championships in 2013.”

On the first day of the competition, the Junior Greco-Roman Qualification Rounds were held. Mongolian wrestlers who won bronze in the Asian Youth Championships in 2013, took two medals. The big breakers were the Iranians who grabbed five gold medals in five weight class events.

On the second day, the Women`s Junior Freestyle in 44 kg, 51 kg, 59 kg and 67 kg will be held.
