Mongolia and Sweden mark 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations

Mongolia and the Kingdom of Sweden held a celebration for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia on May 19th.

The celebration was opened with a speech delivered by the Foreign Affairs Minister, L.Bold. The Deputy Speaker L.Tsog, the chairman of the Mongolia-Sweden Parliamentary group, Yo.Otgonbayar, and representatives of diplomatic mission offices, international organizations in Ulaanbaatar and the Swedish Honorary General Consul to Mongolia were in attendance.

In his speech, Foreign Affairs Minister L.Bold said that Mongolia and the Kingdom of Sweden have seen a significant expansion of bilateral ties and cooperation, and that high level visits were conducted successfully. Minister L.Bold also noted cooperation opportunities on energy, mining, environment and in other fields.

Lars Peter Freden, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Sweden to Mongolia said that President Ts.Elbegdorj`s visit to the Kingdom of Sweden in 2012 was a historically significant push for bilateral relations, cooperation and for strengthening the ties between the two countries.

Mongolia and the Kingdom of Sweden established diplomatic relations on June 30th in 1964.

On May 19th, the celebration for the 50th anniversary of relations, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia L.Bold received Ambassador Lars Peter Freden. At the meeting, Minister L.Bold pointed out the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and expressed satisfaction over active bilateral ties and cooperation.

Minister L.Bold also affirmed an invitation to the royal family of the Kingdom of Sweden to Mongolia, and exchanged views on politics, the economy, energy and mining cooperation.

Also views to establish an intergovernmental commission in order to boost bilateral cooperation was discussed.
