President of Mongolia, Ts.Elbegdorj, attended the IV Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Cooperation in Central Asia (CICA) in Shanghai, China. On Tuesday evening he met with V.Putin, President of the Russian Federation for talks on May 20th. At the beginning of the meeting at his hotel in Shanghai, President V.Putin said that Mongolia and Russia have endured long and historical relations and further relations are seen positive. President Putin noted that Mongolia and China are to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Khalkh Gol battle this August.

President Putin then stressed that “We should talk about many issues for example how to expand further relations, and how to turn our economies into mutually beneficial assets”.

President Ts.Elbegdorj proposed several issues, particular railway transit transport, the celebrations for the Khalkh Gol battle anniversary, and simplified visa requirements for both countries passport holders. President Elbegdorj said that “Mongolia is located between China and Russia. Due to its geographic location, railway transit transport through Mongolian territory is significantly important for us. Mongolia is willing to develop its railway infrastructure on the basis of mutually beneficial and alternate transportation. With the three-party negotiation between Russia-China-Mongolia on railway transit transport, as well as the Russia-Mongolia negotiations, talks are significant.  Railway and transit shipments are strategically important for both of the countries` interests.”

President Elbegdorj continued to talk about the 75th anniversary of the Khalkh Gol battle that is coming this August.  “This is a victory for the people of both Mongolia and Russia. So we want to celebrate it together.” President Elbegdorj and invited President Putin to the Khalkh Gol battle celebration in Mongolia.

President Ts.Elbegdorj also proposed a suggestion to hold tree-party negotiation on railway and transit shipment in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

In return Russian President V.Putin received Mongolia`s proposals and expressed his willingness to have bilateral talks and cooperate on the matter and invited President Ts.Elbegdorj to Russia.
