Mongolia Immigration Agency restructured with new name

The Mongolia Immigration Agency has undergone structural and activity changes according to new policy with the enforcement of the Law on Border Checkpoints that became effective on April 1st.

The Mongolia Immigration Agency changed its name the Citizenship and Migration General Authority Mongolia at an official ceremony at Chinggis Khaan International airport on Tuesday April 1st. At the official ceremony for the Citizenship and Migration General Authority Mongolia, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice J.Bayartsetseg, Director-General of Mongolian Immigration B.Purevdorj and other officials were present.

According to the Law on Border Checkpoints passed at a Parliament session meeting on December 26th, 2013 to be effective from April 1st 2014, some activities and functions of the Border Ports Division of the General Authority for Border Protection are now to be administrated by the Citizenship and Migration General Authority Mongolia.
The Citizenship and Migration General Authority Mongolia along with the General Authority for Border Protection have established independent offices in regions and Buyant-Ukhaa, Selenge and Dornogovi provinces Border Ports launching border checkpoints and services.

The former Mongolia Immigration Agency was only in charge of foreign nationals` issues in Mongolia, now the Citizenship and Migration General Authority Mongolia is obliged to be responsible for both Mongolian nationals and foreigners issues creating a database for crossing passengers and vehicles. It will receive requests related to Mongolian citizenship,  guide foreign nationals from entry till exit, assist Mongolian citizens who are traveling abroad in order to prevent violation of their rights and issue visa for foreign nationals who want to travel in Mongolia. The Citizenship and Migration General Authority Mongolia plans to launch an E-Immigration project by 2016 that allow visitors to apply for a visa and receive a reply online.
