Mongolia has become the 64th member country to join the COMMIT project launched by UN Women.
Ulaanbaatar hosted a meeting with the theme of “Let`s join against violence” expressing a strong stand against gender based violence and domestic abuse on December 20th in 2013 on the initiative of the President of Mongolia, Ts.Elbegdorj.
For the event Mongolia signed the project “COMMIT” initiative launched by the UN Women organization on March 6th, 2014. President Ts.Elbegdorj pledged that the legal environment will be improved so that perpetrators of gender based violence will be punished and domestic violence will be considered a crime in Mongolia.
Launched by UN Women in November of 2012, COMMIT is an advocacy initiative calling on leaders worldwide to fulfill their promise and take a stand by making new and concrete national commitments to end violence against women and girls. These range from passing or improving laws, ratifying international conventions, launching public awareness campaigns, providing safe houses or free hotline services and free legal aid to survivors, supporting education programmes that address gender stereotypes and violence, as well as increasing women in law enforcement, peacekeeping forces and frontline services.
