Four soldiers in Ulaan-Uul frontier outpost killed three of their colleagues during the night of November 22-23 last. Three of them — M.Tulga, L.Lhagvajav and E.Oyunbold –were given the death penalty on March 4, 2010, while R.Enkhjargal was given 25 years in the heavy discipline prison. The case was heard at the Sukhbaatar district court and all four can appeal to the Metropolitan Court.

After killing M.Enkh-Amgalan, S.Bum-Erdene and E.Byambasuren “without reason” and injuring Ts.Sod-Erdene, the four took hostages and tried to flee. Special Forces were called to arrest them.

The case came up for trial three months ago. Before the court gave its verdict yesterday, the accused were brought to the court house under guard and were not permitted to meet their families. Tulga’s mother had brought food and tea but had no chance to offer them. The court sat behind closed doors because the verdict included details of the structure of border divisions.

The injured man, Sod-Erdene, went to the base after hearing a loud noise. He came under firing as soon as he opened the door. He was shot twice and ran over 20 kilometers to the nearest military base to report what had happened.

All four convicted people are residents of Darkhan-Uul province.
