The Second International Piano Festival dedicated to musical genius Fredric Chopin begins in Ulaanbaatar on Sunday. “Frederic Chopin and Mongolia in the 21st century” festival opened with a ceremony held in the hall of the Music and Dance college. The opening of the festival was held on Monday and it will continue till February 28th.

The international piano competitions dedicated to Frederic Chopin are organized in Europe, USA, China and Japan. The first time it was held in Central Asia, it was held in Mongolia. Mongolian musicians expected to have more and more pianists from abroad involved in the festival, in particular from neighboring regions such as Siberia.

The story behind the event started in 2009 when a proposal to hold the piano festival in Mongolia was made to the Warsaw Conservatory in Poland in a bid to organize the international competition in Ulaanbaatar for 2011.

This time a total of 30 pianists will compete in the Second International Piano Festival in Mongolia. The pianists have come from China, South Korea and Russia as well as Mongolian musicians. In the judges panel there are many notable figures including Polish pianist Eva Poblocka, director of the Conservatory in Irkutsk Russian, Honored artist A.S.Durbajeva, director of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Zhe Tang, State Merit Teacher of Mongolia, piano teacher of the Music and Dance College Ch.Tungalag, Cultural leading figure, piano teacher of the Mongolian State University of Culture and Arts, from the Music and Dance College, Ts.Enkhtur.
