The Seabuckthorn project launched by the Ministry of Industry and Agriculture of Mongolia including the “Shar doctor seabuckthorn industry” in Khan-Uul district, Khaan jims seabuckthorn industry in Selenge aimag, “Uvs-khuns” food industry in Uvs aimag,  and “BD” seabuckthorn farm in Dornod are now running active businesses.

In Bayannuur sum in Bulgan aimag there has been installed a fruit and vegetable processing plant and facility with the capacity for 2000 liters of fruit to be preserved in seven different packages that has now become operative.

For the project, seabuckthorn oil, juice drink and concentrated drink are being produced under high standards for the national market and are also being exported to Japan in accordance with the agreement.

Seabuckthorn berry contains a variety of bioactive ingredients. Seabuckthorn juice is rich in vitamin C, E, B1, B2, carotene, sugar, acids and other essential amino acids and trace elements. The oil content in seabuckthorn reaches 12 to 18%. At present, the market demand for seabuckthorn juice drinks is surging both in Mongolia and abroad. This phenomenon can be attributed to the recognition of the rich nutrients, good health and aesthetic benefits seabuckthorn brings to people.

In early times Mongolians used to drink seabucktorn juice in winter to prevent colds as it is believed to boost the immunity. It is a native berry from central Asia to the Altai Mountains.
