Discussion topics at the meetings with Latvian officials will address bilateral cooperation: exchange of visits, economic cooperation and Latvia”s offer in education export. The relations between Latvia and Mongolia have not been active enough until now. A high level visit from Mongolia took place in 2003 when the then President of Mongolia Natsagyn Bgabandi arrived in Riga. The Parliamentary Secretary of the Foreign Ministry, Viktors Makarovs, who took part in the Community of Democracies world forum in Ulaanbaatar in 2013, met with a number of high-ranking Mongolian officials.
Although the volumes of Latvian-Mongolian trade are currently rather low – 1.3 million euro in the first half of 2013 – economic cooperation has high potential as Mongolia is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. The Mongolian side will also be invited to take part in a high-level transport conference to be held in Riga in June 2014.
As part of the visit, Mongolian delegation will lay flowers at the Freedom Monument, visit the Occupation Museum, as well as taking part in a round table discussion on business opportunities in Mongolia jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA).
The delegation is arriving in Latvia from Switzerland, where it took part in the Davos World Economic Forum, and will depart for Lithuania and Poland.
