The Millennium Challenge Account of Mongolia (MCAM) has
submitted to the city authorities projects and programs it plans to implement
in Ulaanbaatar. These cover areas of infrastructure, health, education and the
environment. The 17-km road from the Bayanzurkh checkpoint to Nalaikh will be
re-constructed, and there are also projects targeted at reducing and preventing
cardio-vascular illnesses, diabetes, cancer of the cervix, and road accidents.
The Fresh Air project aims at reducing smoke in the ger
areas, by helping production of smokeless furnaces and less polluting heating
material. The Mayor was particularly enthusiastic about a proposal to see how
far sawdust can replace coal.
