Today the Minister of Health received a group of midwives who have been selected to undertake special training in Japan. Representatives of the Government of Japan, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), agreed with the Ministry of Health last September to conduct a midwifery program including training for midwives from maternal hospitals and clinics in Mongolia. The representatives of JICA visited the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, the Maternity facilities in the capital City and regional centers of diagnosis and treatment to familiarize themselves with the hospitals’ activities. Following this agreement, JICA is to conduct training in Japan to offer midwifery professionals improvements that will ensure future success in the birthing procedure. The training for midwifery professionals will be conducted for three years from this year onwards.

The training for midwifery professionals and midwives will run from January 22nd to March 1st. In the first shift of training 10 midwives and birth professionals will go from the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, Maternity House No.1, the Regional center of diagnosis and treatment in Uvurkhangai province, the Regional center of diagnosis and treatment in Orkhon province and the Regional center of diagnosis and treatment in Khovd province.

The Minister of Health, N.Udval, asked the chosen midwives to learn more about how to prevent miscarriage and special care and treatments for premature babies.
