A task force has been created to generate a model bill for Mongolian language. The idea was initiated by several MPs; M.Batchimeg, G.Batkhuu and N.Enkhbold. As the law makers have now prepared the first model bill on Mongolian language, they organized a public discussion on the draft bill at the Civil Hall under the President of Mongolia on Wednesday January 15th.

MP M.Batchimeg opened the discussion on the draft bill for Mongolian language by presenting their model. The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ts.Oyungerel also delivered a speech during the discussion. A wide range of participants were present at the discussion including officials from the President`s Office, the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism and the Ministry of Education and Science. Representatives from The Institute of Literature and Scripts of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, the School of Mongolian Language and Culture of the National University of Mongolia, the Mongolian State University of Education, the University of Humanities and other state agencies, educational research institutes, linguistic scholars, fellows, teachers of general education schools, media and civilians were also in attendance.

Participants carried out an open discussion on the problematic issue of how to strengthen the independence of the language and how it can be improved. Participants appreciated the proposal to generate a state policy and legislative regulation on the Mongolian language as evidence of national independence.

The main discussions focused on how to define the roles of state organizations and how to improve media roles and participation. Views and opinions were shared on the structure, arrangement and terms of the draft bill on Mongolian language.

A discussion on the draft law for Mongolian language will publicly be conducted by the media in order to account for public views.
