The team included 25 climbers from Orkhon province, the Mongolian Professional Snowboard Federation and the Mongolian Mountaineering Association, the Association of Mongolian Climbing guides and a trekking club. Mountaineers climbed to Asralt Khairkhan (2,799.3 meters above sea level) over January 11th and 13th. Out of all 25 athletes, 11 mountaineers including Mongolian athlete Usukhbayar Gotovdorj, eight snowboarding athletes and two skiers went down on snowboards from the peak of the mountain to the bottom of the mountain in 10 minutes.
Even though it was the height of the winter, the weather was pleasant and the wind was easy when climbers reached the peak of the mountain. Therefore they were able to complete a successful descent by snowboard.
This is the second time that the athletes of the Mongolian Professional Snowboard Federation have done a successful descent on snowboards since they went from the Peak of Burkhan Khaldun Mountain last winter. In summer the athletes of the federation typically ride snowboards on snow-clad peaks.
The Mongolian Professional Snowboard Federation are now training their athletes in advance for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
