The National Trauma and Orthopedic Research Center has warned citizens to be cautious of possible slips, trips and falls, and to avoid sleeping drunk outside in the freezing cold that may cause the loss of hands and feet.

During these days, at the height of winter, the National Trauma and Orthopedic Research Center serves on average 250-300 patients with traumatic injuries a day. Most of those who go to the National Trauma and Orthopedic Research Center are patients who arrived after having fallen or after being found drunk with frost-bitten hands and feet.

Currently the National Trauma and Orthopedic Research Center is very busy and is experiencing a high demand for beds and accident and emergency services to cope with the strain as temperatures plummet according to busy medical specialists. Around 50-60 percent, or 150-200, of patients who arrive at the National Trauma and Orthopedic Research Center suffer from serious traumatic injuries caused by slips and falls on icy pavements and slippery surfaces on the city streets. If someone has a bone fracture after a slip or a fall, they lose work capability for at least three month and it will take six months for tissue injuries.

Traumatic injuries may take one to one and a half years to recover completely depending on the injury level.

Therefore the National Trauma and Orthopedic Research Center has warned citizens to avoid possible slips and falls and frost-bite from cold exposure.
