Certificate of World Documentary Heritage preserved in National Library

One of Mongolia`s unique works, the Ganjuur sutra, in which each page is sophisticatedly written with nine precious stones, was inscribed to the UNESCO World Documentary Heritage last July.

Irina Bokova, the Director-General of UNESCO officially handed the certificate of inscription for the Ganjuur sutra to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia during the 37th session of the General Conference of UNESCO, held between 5th and 20th November in Paris, France.

Today the inscription certificate of the unique Ganjuur sutra will be officially delivered for preservation to the Rare and Valuable Books Museum of the National Library of Mongolia at 3:00 pm on December 13th, 2013.

At the ceremony the Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism, Ts.Oyungerel, Minister of Foreign Affairs, L.Bold and other representatives and officials will be in attendance.

An exhibition will also be held to showcase Mongolia`s cultural heritage of Mongolian calligraphy and Mongol ger traditional craftsmanship which have recently been inscribed to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

At the 11th Meeting of the International Advisory Committee for the Memory of the World Programme, organized in Gwangju Metropolitan City Korea, between 18th and 21st June 2013, the heritage items that were submitted by member countries were discussed. 54 unique elements were added to UNESCO`s Memory of the World Register. It was a historical moment for Mongolia as the Ganjuur sutra was included in those 54 new entries to the Memory of the World Register.
