The National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia is organizing the day event for children with visual impairments. At the event key issues that involved the rights of children with visual impairments to obtain education and active participation in society will be raised.
It is estimated that approximately 1160 children with visual impairments are living in Mongolia.
Only 85 of these children attend the 116th secondary school for visually impaired children; the other 1000 children with visual impairments are not provided with education. Even though these children have the rights to read books and obtain knowledge like the rest of the population they do not have access to the resources. In Mongolia there is still a lack of access to education and study environments for those children. There are many barriers for these children as they need to study more hours with teachers than ordinary children.
The day event for children with visual impairments will seek a way to provide children with visual impairments healthy, safe and better study environments and secure the rights to obtain education like others.
