SMBC was established in April 2001 through the merger of two leading banks, the Sakura Bank Limited, and the Sumitomo Bank Limited. These two corporations played a huge role after world Wars I and II in Japan to Japanese economic growth and industrial development.
At the opening ceremony for the representative office of Japanese Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation in Ulaanbaatar, the Chairman of the Office, Hajime Uchida emphasized that “Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Group will work hard to provide international standard setting- financial services and project investment which meets requirements of customers` needs .”
