The pre-trial detention period for activist Ts.Munkhbayar, founder of the Onggi River Movement, who has been detained at detention center 461 since September 16th, was extended by 30 days.

A request for bail for the environmental activist was sent to Sukhbaatar District Court by MP G.Uyanga but was denied and the detention period was extended instead.

Sukhbaatar District Court explained that the denial of bail was becuase MP G.Uyanga did not approach the Court but enclosed a request to the prosecutor instead. So it is impossible to revise according to the law of Mongolia.

The “Gal Undesten” movement activist Ts.Munkhbayar and other activists were arrested for using handmade bombs, grenades and firearms and for entering a state protected area, the north garden of the Government house. They did this to oppose any move to amend the law banning mineral exploration and exploitation in river and forest basins during an irregular plenary session meeting of Parliament on September 16th, 2013.
